Seuss-ism Freebie

I've been having fun with some Seuss graphics. I know it's getting late to post this but maybe you can use it next year. This is a little activity I'm doing in small groups but you could use it in a center. The kiddos unscramble the 5 sentences and write them on the recording sheet. All the sentences are from 'The Cat in the Hat' book. Click on the picture for a PDF.

Don't forget the BIG sale on TpT tomorrow. Check out my details HERE.

4 things 2 are freebies!

I just spent the last 2 hours trying to find a really great idea I saw a few days ago on someone's blog. It is so frustrating not being able to find something. I've got to get my blog ideas more organized!

1. Anywho, while looking through countless blogs for the past few hours I read about the Pinterest permission thingy. You can learn all about it out here on Laura's blog. You need to read the fine print. Basically, you need permission to pin things from my blog. So I'm giving you permission to pin me. It would be nice if you linked back to me.
I won't be pinning anything without permission! Pass this along to all the bloggers and pinners you know.

2. The new core is heavy on writing. So this is a little non-fiction summary organizer I put together for my kiddos. I did it on one page and then after using with my firsties I realized some of them can't write all that small so I re-made it for a 2 pager that I print front to back. It seemed to work much better. My higher kids can use the 1 pager. They didn't seem to care either way. If you teach 2nd grade, the one pager would be great for your kiddos.
Of course, you need to model how to use it first, then we did some together before I let them do it on their own. I have been really impressed with what they have been able to write, even my lower readers.

3. This week we'll be working on the vowel blends ou and ow. So here is a FREEBIE worksheet. Click on the picture to download.
4. I posted a new mini packet on to my shops today. It's an activity for adding -s or -es to words with some worksheets and an anchor chart. My kiddos loved it! It's only $2. Check it out at my TpT or Teacher Notebook shop by clicking on the word.

I can't believe Saturday is over. Where did the weekend go? I wish the week days went as fast as the weekends.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you found something you can use in your classroom!
Have a great SUNDAY!

Measuring Freebie

Does anyone know how long it takes the sugar to get out of a first graders system? I was hoping by now my firsties would be calm and back to normal. I am hoping by tomorrow but I may be dreaming!
I made a cute little measuring activity to go along with my 'Math is a Beach' packet. My kiddos love it!
There are 10 adorable pictures (graphic are by KPM Doodles) for them to measure with tiles and a recording sheet. I printed the clam and whale on the poster setting of my printer to  make them really big.
Click on the picture below to grab a download or head over to my shops for a free download and you can check out the whole 'Math is a Beach' packet. Teachers Pay Teachers or Teachers Notebook
Yeah! A 3 day weekend! I can't wait. I'm going to rest and relax and rest and relax some more. I hope you have a great weekend too. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you find something you can use in your classroom.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope everyone survived today! It seems like these little firsties get more excited every year. We had an exhausting but very fun day. I'm not sure how much learning took place but at least I tried. It was pretty calm in the morning and then it got totally crazy in the afternoon when the moms showed up for the party. There must have been a post or something on Pinterest with heart shaped hair because I had 4 little darlings with their hair done all up in hearts. Here's a few pictures I snapped of them. The one little girl told us it took "four hours to do!"

I hope all the sugar is out of their systems by tomorrow. Just look at one of the cookies my little ones made at the party.
He just kept dumping on the sugar sprinkles. Believe it or not, he actually ate it all and he wasn't the only one whose cookie looked like this. Yuck! Anyhow, I think we all had a great day!

I just added some new math story problem packets to my Teachers Shop. My kiddos love the story mats so I made some more.
It has 12 fun mats for the students to make up story problems about. The mats come with 10-frames or without. There are also number sentence cards and recording sheets.
I also combined the first packet with this latest one into a combo packet at a great price!
You can check them out at my TpT shop or TN shop by clicking on the words.

I hope your day was as fun as mine!

100's Day and Freebies

It's been a fun week! We had a great 100's day full of learning and fun! Here are some pictures.
We counted and sorted Fruit Loops on our counting mats and then strung a necklace!
I got the idea from Miss Marcy's blog My First Grade Backpack HERE.
I made a sorting mat you can download if you click on the picture. I'm going to use it for other counting projects through out the year.

We did Melissa's fun activity from her blog, Today in First Grade called '100 things on a ring' through out the day and they loved it. Click HERE to check out her blog post and get a copy.
We played Roll 100, read lots of 100 day books, and put pentomino 100's puzzles together.
But I think their favorite activity was Bear Squeeze. This is my sweet little granddaughter Tiffany playing it.
It is an idea we got at Utah Core Academy several years ago. You don't have to do it for 100's day though. First you read this book by Stuart Murphy.

Then you tell the kiddos they are going to be magic and make a 100's number line from a single sheet of paper. Then show them how by cutting all the edges off but the left side.
Put some glue on that left side and roll the paper around together and line up the 10 and 11 and all the way down the line. Then start to cut below the numbers and before you know it- you have a number line. They all 'ohh and ahh'. Then we play 'Bear Squeeze'. It's like the game Eddie plays in the book. I hope this is making sense. If not click on the picture below to grab a copy of this fun activity. I included the pictures because every year I need a reminder how the magic works! I made it to 120 because the new core goes beyond 100 now!
Oh I almost forgot. Because the Groundhog says we are having 6 more weeks of winter, my WINTER MATH CENTER packet is 20% off. Hurry over a get it while it's on sale! Click TpT or TN for a link.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you found something you can use in your classroom!
Have a great week!

Tagged

I finally got tagged with the flu bug that has been circling my classroom for the past 2 weeks. I thought I could avoid it but it got me last night. So I'm sitting here with my blankie, hot cider, lots of Tylenol in me and I'm blogging trying not to remember how achy I feel.
I also got tagged in the blogging world which I haven't had time to respond to. So sorry ladies it's taken me a while to get to the tagging party. I was tagged by:

Photobucket

http://goingnuttyinmisssquirrelsfirstgrade.blogspot.com/
Frogs in First
So here goes. The rules are you must tell 12 things about yourself, answer the tagger questions and pass it along to 12 others. Well, I'm going to bend the rules a bit because I'm so late and most everyone has already been tagged. I got tagged by 3 others and I really don't want to answer 36 questions about myself, I think you'd really get bored. So I chose 3 from each.
Okay so 12 things about me, this is really hard for me because there really is nothing exciting about me to tell.
1. I have lived in Lehi, Utah all my life. I'm surrounded by my family. My parents live here as well as my brother and sister. All of my children live here tool. We just can't leave this great little used to be small town!
2. I would like to go on a vacation some day to Australia. I love kangaroos and I'd like to see them in the wild!
3. I am a product of middle child syndrome. I have an older brother and a younger sister.
4. I am known as Grandma Sheree to my 8 wonderful grandchildren!
5. I love to play the piano although not that great but I teach my granddaughters piano lessons which has been very rewarding.
6. I like to drink Caffeine-free Dr. Pepper!!
7. I drive a Toyota Camry and my hubby has a GMC Diesel pick-up truck which I get to drive now and again. But I HATE to park it- it is such a beast!
8. I don't know how to back up in a car very well. My hubby keeps trying to teach me but I'm not a very good learner.
9. I love to sing but sometimes I change the words to the song without thinking. I sang at my grandma's funeral and completely changed the words to 'How Great Thou Art'. No one knew except my Aunt who was accompanying me. We just laugh about it now!
10. I prefer my PC at home rather than my MAC laptop from school. The screen is too small on the MAC and I can't make it do what my PC can.
11. I would really like a Smartboard or at least a Mimeo for my classroom but it doesn't look very likely for a long time to come.
12. I change my hairstyle about every 2 years. Never satisfied.

3 Questions from Melissa over on DillyDabbles, she asked:
1. What is your favorite food/drink to de-stress? Hershey's Bliss Dark Chocolate. I have a stash in my closet at school so I can pop one when I need it.
2. What is your favorite book to read to your class? This is hard because I have a ton. I just finished 'Stone Fox'. My kids love it and we always cry at the end!
3. How old/new is your school? My school is 6 years old. I followed my principal to this school when they built it and then she left me and went to the district office. But I still love it here. We have a great faculty!

3 Questions from Miss Squirrel at Going Nutty, her questions have a Valentine theme, she asked:
1. When was the last time you talked to your high school sweetheart? it was about 2 minutes ago, I married him!
2. Where was the most romantic place you have gone on a date? We went to Hawaii a few years back. It was awesome. The sunsets were gorgeous!
3. How long have you been with your honey-bunny? We've been married 34 years and dated for 5 years before that. Okay I can see you doing the math trying to figure out how old I am. Remember we were high school sweethearts.

3 Questions from my buddy Fredia at Frogs in First, she asked:
1. What book are you reading right now? I just finished 'Hunger Games' and starting the 2nd in the series. It was different but really good!
2. Do you like marshmallows in your hot chocolate? No
3. What time do you do to bed? I get in bed about 9:30 and start watching the news and turn it off around 10:00. What time do you get up? I'm up at 5:25.

I hope it wasn't to boring and you were able to hang in there till the end.
Have a great day!
