You Read to Me books and Bendaroo bargin

One of my all-time favorite poetry book series is by Mary Ann Hoberman called "You Read to Me, I'll Read to You". My class goes crazy when I pull these out.

Each book it full of two person poems. One person reads one color of print while the other person read a different color. Then sometimes both will read together with another color of print.

I love to use these with my on grade level and higher readers. It helps them practice expression, rate, accuracy, and all that's part of fluency! They like to 'perform' them for each other. The white book is the first and a little easier than the rest with shorter poems. I'll even put one on the document camera and divide into groups and have the whole class read a poem.

There are 5 books in the series with great illustrations the kids just love by Michael Emberley. They are also great for teaching different literature genres. One is all Fairy Tales, another Mother Goose Rhymes, another Fables, and the last is Scary Halloweenish Stories. (I know Halloweenish isn't a really word but you know what I mean). I LOVE that they are now in paperback and reasonable in price (about $6.99 each on Amazon). If you click on anyone of the books it will link you over to Amazon.com where you can read a lot more about them.

One other little note: I like to use Wikki Stix or Bendaroos in my wordwork station. They are like a candle wick or waxy piece of string. My kiddos form the letters of their sight words and spelling words with them. They also like to construct silly sentences. There are lots of great uses for them.
My sticks are getting really worn out (gross actually) and it is time to find some new one. But they can be kind of pricey. My daughter found these today on Amazon. So I ordered some. If you click on the picture below, it will link you over to Amazon.com.

They are regularly $23.99 and now only $7.00. Most people like the Wikki Stix brand best because they stick together better but I'm not using them that way so I think these will work just fine. I'll let you know.

New Pronoun Packet and a FREEBIE

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. We are presently getting snowed on big time. Which doesn't make me happy because we are headed out of town and we have to travel through the mountains. Praying that it stops before we have to leave.

Just finished my newest packet for my teacher shops. It is all about PRONOUNS. This is a new concept  for first graders on the new common core and I had no resources to teach it. So I put together this little packet and tested it out on my kiddos this week. They learned pronouns really well to my surprise!
There is an anchor chart, a great activity to show how pronouns take the place of nouns, a Hunt the Pronoun Dragon activity, Dragon Pronoun Path game board, Pronoun scoot, A Change It to a pronoun activity that I do in table groups, and several practice sheets.

You can check it out at either of my shops just by clicking the widget or shop buttons on my side bar.

Here is a FREEBIE from the new packet. It's a fun little word search. Just click on the picture to grab a FREE copy.

Valentine's Day Fun

Hi everyone! I hope you all had an awesome President's Day weekend. It was a much needed break for me. My sweet hubby and I took a little stay-vacation to the city for a couple of nights. It was so nice to relax, eat great food that I didn't have to cook, watch movies, and just enjoy the peace and quiet!

Here's a little peek at our Valentine's Day Fun before the long weekend.

Hope everyone has a terrific week!

CRAZY WEEK and FREEBIES!

This is one CRAZY WEEK!
Yesterday we had our grade level collaboration presentation. I'm not even sure if that's what it's called. We have to present/tell/show our principal, PTA Pres. and a few parents what we do for collaboration. It wasn't too stressful, just one of the many hoops we have to jump through as teachers. Wednesday and Thursday are parent conferences. YEAH! We do them after school from 4:00 -7:30. It makes for 2 VERY, VERY LONG days. Then on Friday I have a sub so I can do my district math assessments with my kiddos. Each student meets with me individually and I give them 3 little math tests. FUN!
Anyhoo, I wanted to get a blog post done before I'm too tired to think. We are in full swing with our February math stations. And I have a few new ones from last year.
This is a game from last year but I made a BIGGER version of it for math stations. It is practice with missing addends with a heart twist. You can download it HERE.
These 2 penguin games are from my sweet friend Yolanda from Oceans of First Grade Fun. It's her  Positively Penguin packet. And it's POSITIVELY PERFECT! You can find it at TpT HERE.

This is a darling FREE game for practice counting to 120 that I found over on Angie's blog Rulin' the Roost. Click HERE for the link.
And this little counting the tallies game with George and Abe is one of my creations. You can download it HERE.

Finally, this little clock activity is one of mine from last year. You can check it out HERE.

I hope everyone is having an AWESOME week!
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you found something you can use in your classroom.
